Match Your Sample Rope

You already have a rope that works and want a factory that can match that sample and supply it reliably. Here’s how it runs at Baiyuheng Ropes: what we read from your sample, what can and can’t be copied, and how the approved sample guides bulk and repeat orders.

> Send the reference rope with its application and quantity. We check material, construction, core, diameter and weight, confirm whether we can build it or offer the closest match, make a sample and quote, then produce bulk against the sample you approve.

Sample matching process: sample in, read the build, feasibility, counter-sample, approve, bulk

Step by step, then, starting with what goes in the parcel. For the full development flow, see our custom rope manufacturing guide

What a Reference Sample Tells Us, and What It Doesn’t

A physical sample carries what a spec sheet leaves out. We can feel how firm it is and see how tight the braid sits. Colour in daylight, too. Two ropes with the same “4 mm polypropylene” on paper can be completely different products.

What a sample doesn’t tell us on its own: what you use it for, which property matters most to you, how much you need and how you want it packed. That’s why we still ask for the application and quantity, even when the rope is in our hands.

No physical sample to hand? Photos plus the rope’s specs also work. Include a close-up of a cut end, because the inside of the rope (core and strands) changes the build and the price. Either way, we make a sample first, then quote.

Our rope specifications article explains how a sample and a written spec work together.

How to Send Your Sample: What to Put in the Parcel

Before you post anything, contact us first. We send you the receiving details and ask for the tracking number, so the parcel doesn’t sit unclaimed at the gate.

In the parcel, or in the email that goes with it:

  • About 2 metres of the rope. If you can’t post it, send photos and specs instead.
  • What the rope is used for.
  • Target quantity per colour.
  • Which properties can’t change: diameter, feel, colour, weight per metre?
  • A colour reference, if the colour you want differs from the sample.
  • Packing format: bundle, hank, spool or retail packing.
  • Any testing requirement you have. Our polypropylene and polyester ropes have SGS REACH SVHC test reports.

If you have the old supplier’s spec sheet, or a tender spec with a nominal diameter and an allowed range, send that too. We build to the spec you give and confirm feasibility for each project.

Sample cost. Polypropylene (PP) rope samples in colours from our colour card are free. Polyester and nylon samples are charged, because we don’t hold stock material for them. For custom colours, the sample fee and price are quoted per project. You pay the courier for all samples.

How We Read Your Sample: Material, Construction, Core, Diameter and Weight

Material

First we identify the fibre: polyester, nylon or polypropylene. If you’d like to check your sample yourself, see how to identify polyester rope and how to identify a nylon rope.

Construction

Next is the braid: hollow, solid, diamond, double or flat, and for polypropylene also twisted (3-strand). We look at how many strands are braided and how tight. For the basics of braid vs twist, see braided or twisted nylon rope.

Core

Is it hollow, or does it have a parallel or twisted fibre core? Or is there something non-textile inside? The core decides a lot about firmness and weight.

Diameter and weight per metre

Two ropes with the same diameter can feel and weigh very differently, because yarn size, braid density and core all change the result. Diameter is the number everyone asks about first, but in our experience weight per metre is what usually gives a copy away. We check both.

Exact Match, Close Match or Closest Existing Rope

Let’s be straight about what “match” means here. Making the same look and diameter on our own yarns and machines is often possible. An identical yarn-by-yarn copy may not be, because our yarns and machine setups may differ from the original factory’s. We tell you which one you’re getting before sampling.

We can’t copy a rope in three cases, and we’ll say so up front:

  • A non-textile core, such as a wire cable inside.
  • A diameter beyond our range. For 2–3 mm we make polyester; for 4–10 mm we make polypropylene or nylon, and we usually recommend PP.
  • A special size we’ve never made before.

When an exact build isn’t possible or isn’t worth it, we suggest the existing construction and diameter closest to your sample, so you can evaluate it before paying for a custom build.

Want to supply your own yarn? That can be discussed; we quote after we see the sample.

Why do quotes vary so much? Strand count, yarn, core, machine time and colour all change the cost. That’s why price comes after we make the sample, whether you sent a physical rope or photos plus specs. For custom colours, the sample fee and price are quoted per project.

See custom rope OEM for our constructions and ranges, and our material pages for polyester, nylon and polypropylene rope.

The Counter-Sample Loop: Review, Adjust, Approve

We make a development sample against the agreed build. Usually we send you photos of the counter-sample first, so you can confirm the style, and then ship the physical piece.

When it arrives, put it next to your original and compare:

  • Diameter
  • Weight per metre
  • Firmness
  • Braid tightness
  • Colour, in daylight

Typical adjustments: a heavier or denser rope, a tighter or looser braid, a different core, or a colour correction. We revise where needed.

On colour: match to the physical sample or an approved swatch, not a photo on a screen. A screen never shows rope colour the way it looks in your hand. PP rope in colour-card colours is free to sample; custom colours are quoted per project.

Once you approve, the signed-off sample, with its version and date, becomes the production reference. Rope specifications shows how to record it.

Send your rope specification, length, color, quantity and packing requirements for a custom quote.

Keeping Bulk and Repeat Orders Consistent With the Approved Sample

Bulk is produced and inspected against the approved sample and the criteria we agreed. Our manufacturing quality control page explains the checks.

An honest note: braided rope can vary slightly from batch to batch, in tightness or how full the core sits. Tell us which property you care about most, and we write it into the order notes so it’s checked on every run.

For repeat orders, we keep the approved sample as the reference. If we ever need to change the yarn or the core, we inform you before we make the change.

Packing is part of the approval too. See rope packaging for the options.

Conclusion

Matching a sample rope is a short loop: you send the rope or photos with specs, we read the build, tell you whether it’s an exact build or the closest match, send a counter-sample, and produce bulk against what you approve. We’ve made braided rope for over 15 years in our own factory in Jiangmen, Guangdong.

Have a rope you want matched? Tell us the application and quantity, then post us about 2 metres of it, or send photos of the rope and a cut end with its specs. We’ll confirm whether we can build it or what the closest match is, make a sample, and quote. If you’d rather start from a spec than a sample, you can request a custom rope OEM quote instead. PP rope samples in colour-card colours are free; polyester and nylon samples are charged, and custom colours are quoted per project. We reply within 12 hours.

FAQ

Can you make rope that matches my existing sample?

Often, yes, on our own yarns and machines. We check material, construction, core, diameter and weight first and tell you whether it’s an exact build or the closest match.

What should I send with my rope sample?

About 2 metres of the rope, the application, target quantity per colour, the properties that matter most, a colour reference and your packing needs.

Can you copy a rope with a wire or non-textile core?

No. A non-textile core is outside what we make. We can suggest the closest textile rope instead.

Are rope samples free?

Polypropylene (PP) rope samples in colour-card colours are free. Polyester and nylon samples are charged, and custom colours are quoted per project. You pay the courier.

Will my repeat order match the approved sample?

We keep the approved sample as the reference for repeat orders, and we tell you before changing the yarn or core.
